New picnic site opens Cape Point Vineyards’ Noordhoek Estate to the public for the first time

Over the past years the entrance to Cape Point Vineyards’ Noorhoek Estate on Silvermine road has been guarded by two lions carved from a single Carrera Marble block; one vigilant, one asleep. Now, these same lions act as a beacon to welcome visitors to Cape Point Vineyards picturesque Noordhoek Estate for the first time.

Set at the side of the Vineyard’s dam, in the midst of vines and fynbos, where it is set against a backdrop of the magnificent Noordhoek amphitheatre and provides a breath taking view of the prestigious Noordhoek beach, Cape Point Vineyards’ new picnic site cannot help but to encourage one to linger…

“Those of us lucky enough to work here have never had any doubt as to the reason for Cape Point Vineyards’ multi award winning track record,” says Winemaker Duncan Savage; “simply put, it is our terroir; the mixture of mountain soils and our close proximity to the sea. Opening our Noordhoek Estate to the public for the first time creates a whole new dimension to the enjoyment of our wines, it provides a sense of place”.

On the subject of the sometimes vigorous cool ocean breezes, so necessary for slow ripening conditions, marketing manager Lizanne van der Spuy states: “We realise that the Noordhoek winds are perhaps not as favourable to guests as it is to our grapes and have therefore erected a canopy to shelter our picnic patio, ensuring that our guests are able to enjoy a picnic with an exquisite view on even the most strenuous days. Should you wish to harness the winds, like our grapes, our rolling lawns provide an ideal playground for the flying of kites”

Cape Point Vineyards Noordhoek Estate is open for picnics Daily between 12:00 and 15:00; Sundowner tastings are served between 17:00 and 20:00.
