“In the short time that Cape Point Vineyards has been around the cellar has acquired a reputation as one of South Africa’s leading Sauvignon Blanc Producers”
(Fiona MacDonald)
Cape Point Vineyards is uniquely situated in the Cape Peninsula on a narrow strip of land perfectly poised between the disparate oceans of the icy Atlantic and the warmer currents of False Bay. Buffeted by cool breezes from the nearby oceans our vines enjoy a unique microclimate with slow ripening conditions – ideal for the production of world class Sauvignon Blanc.
Although excise reports show that vines were planted in Noordhoek as early as 1752, Cape Point was only declared a Wine of Origin District in 1998 when the first of Cape Point Vineyards’ prestigious vines took root.
Whilst our extreme location initially caused some doubt amongst industry critics, Cape Point Vineyards’ maiden vintage proved the excellence of our terrior when the Cape Point Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc 2000 was bestowed both the General Smuts Trophy for the best young wine as well as the JC Graue Trophy for the Best White Table Wine at the 2000 SA Young Wine Show.
The notable success of our maiden vintage proved to be merely the beginning to a beautiful journey into the art of winemaking: Our passion for our land and the application of classical of winemaking has since gained Cape Point Vineyards global acclaim.
Over the past decade Cape Point Vineyards has achieved 11 coveted 5 Star ratings from The John Platter Guide to South African Wine and 10 Trophies from the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show. Further accolades include:
- Platter’s Winery of the Year Award 2008
- best White Blend in the world over £10.00 at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2010
- numerous 90+ Wine Spectator Ratings
